Triops C. My new pets! Will be breeding it for sale :D

Triops bare it all

I’ve filmed triops from below to show more of their anatomy, which is usually hidden by their carapace, and also because it makes them look much more impressive. Their mandibles, legs, book gills and egg pouches are clearly visible at various points in the video. Triops cancriformis has two digging behaviours that I’ve observed; one is to skim the surface of the substrate as they walk across it, leaving a furrowed trail behind them, and I’m pretty sure that this is a foraging behaviour, but sometimes they excavate a large hole, and I think that this is to provide protection for their eggs, but it’s also possible that it’s an attempt to find worms and other large prey items. The first triops in the video is engaging in the latter behaviour, but the flurry of legs and sand grains makes it difficult to tell if any eggs are being released from it’s egg pouches.
