Triops if I am thinking of the right ones only live for a few days around a week or 2. If you mean the little things you can buy in kits then yeah they only live for around a week or 2.

Stick with simple plants. Add some compost for bacteria and fungi. Set it all up with the lids off for a week or more. Use what stays/arrives. It will probably not gain stability, so don't fret if it cycles out of control and crashes.

We had the aquasaurs and we loved them infact we still have them. It is very simple to keep them alive. You just use bottled h2o and 1/2 the pack of eggs they give you and they give you food too, and when that is gone you can use goldfish food. They live about 6 months, if you keep them warm and in sunlight/ but not direct sun. They grow to about the size of a nickle and the kids thought they were great. They grow really fast and look like mini horse shoes crabs that swim around. They are fun. you have enought eggs for 2 live cycles. The only downside is you can not move the tank, it has to stay where you put it, or you will spill it. I hope this helped.

They can for a little while. You should still do a 10-15% water change, though, using the recommended water type (I believe it is bottle spring water).

I have never heard of triops before but most animals need clean water as "blurry" water is not a good sign. Try a water change. Sorry if this information is incorrect, I'm just acting like they are the same as fish but I'm not sure.

Comment on how long does it take for triops to hatch? by Dan M

Here is an article with some good info about hatching and raising Triops.

Most of the kits have Triops longicaudatus, so if that's way you got yours, If the eggs have not hatched within 48 hours of hydration, they are probably not going to. Anything that has hatched in a day is probably fairy shrimp, daphnia, or cyclops, all kind of interesting animals but intended as food for the Triops in this case.

Once it's been more than two days with T. longicaudatus eggs, if they haven't hatched pour off the water, tip the tank and let the substrate dry out. Once the eggs have been dry for a week, you can try again. Check your kit's instructions against the article linked below and where they conflict, go with the article.

http://mytriops.com/articles/triops_care.stm

Also take a look around the site. Some of the photos may be ours. My son has done well with some of the species, especially cancriformis, which is a much longer lived and larger growing species, although it starts out slowly. Ours have laid hundreds if not thousands of eggs, and so we can hatch out more any time we want. A good place to get eggs of other species is on Aquabid.com There can be a dozen different kinds being auctioned there, though just now checking, most all have ended, so you might have to check back until the new auctions go up. The link below includes all kinds of invertebrates as well as Triops, known also as tadpole shrimp.

They take a few days to hatch. They are pretty rubbish, you only get 1-3 triops every time. Waste of money really...
