Artificial Life Lab – VIRTUAL TRIOPS ON “SECOND LIFE”

“Virtual Triops” are first creatures, in our virtual lab, changing their morphology and behavior as result of Natural Selection. They have 3 proximity sensors “eyes” and a vertical sensor to maintain the horizontal plane. Each eye gives the distance to the next piece of food to a very simple, unsupervised learning, neural network that combines all data coming in one impulse toward the target (the food). At the very beginning, when a VIRTUAL TRIOP borns the first time, with no parents, it is in “learning mode” and eyes position is randomly generated. The Virtual Triop has only 10 minutes to discover and catch the first piece of food. If it is not able to catch the food it will die. The Virtual Triop will try to find the right weights for its neural network by tentative using a very simple unsupervised learning algorithm. If it will be successful, will toggle in its “real virtual life” state. If it will continue to live, eating enough, each 6 hours it will breed and its offspring will receive the same genotype, with the eyes disposal and the neural network weights plus a percentage “error” above each parameter. The error assures that offspring will be a little bit different than the parent and the Natural Selection will do the rest. Generation after generation Virtual Triops will co-evolve together all others creatures competing for the same food. At present, after about 240 generations, evolved Virtual Triops are enough fast and precise to compete with the very old

Why haven’t my triops hatched?

I got this swamp monster triop tank for my birthday and i set it up, filled it with nestle pure life water, heated the tank up to 22 degrees Celsius -what the instructions said- and then placed the eggs in. Its been 2 days now and nothings happened or changed. Help please?

help its a matter of life or death. 10 points best answer?

today 3 of my triops have died and i only have a slight idea why. i know its not through old age since they’re only like a week and half old. for the last few days they havent been eating their food so i have now bought some new food but i dont know if their eating it. i only have one left and i dont want him to die. also alot of algea has been growing recently and im in the middle of 100% water change (i know how to do it properly and know he’s in no harm because im not adding him straight away and changing his water he’s in now to the one in the tank) please help me
Yes thanks for everything so far and I know 100% water change is deadly but I am doing itcarefully and slowly as I’m doing it over a couple of days, it was instinct coz I initially thought it might be something in the water :/ I sure do hope he lives

Debate: Triops vs Sea Monkeys?

Triops and Sea Monkeys, the two popular instant pets, but which, in your opinion, is better. Personally, I think Triops, as they are get quite big and are amusing little pets, as well as living a fascinating life cycle.
