A-Cross Triops longicaudatus Tonto National Forest Arizona

These are Triops longicaudatus I found in the Tonto Basin, Arizona, late summer 2008. They live in an earthen cattle tank that drys out each year. It was unusual for this tank to have water this late in the summer.

Triops longicaudatus & Triops cancriformis

These are a few triops I hatched from dessicated eggs. The Triops longicaudatus are the active ones in the first part of the video, and the Triops cancriformis is the more lethargic one later on. I had a lot of difficulty getting Triops cancriformis to hatch, so I only have one individual from about 8 seperate hatching attempts, and that one took weeks to hatch. The Triops longicaudatus hatched within days without any bother.

Triops Longicaudatus Video Journal Days 1-2

Triops Longicaudatus Days 1-2. Hatching them using the floating tank method, can’t see them in this video because they are really small but they are there :) . They are very lively already and they swim all around the tank looking for food.

First Triops you see is Giardia. She is 15 days old and has egg sacs. The second Triops is Triops #3, the youngest at 11 days old. However, Triops #3′s sister Triops #2 has egg sacs already. Triops #2 and Triops #3 are related to each other, but are not related to Giardia per’se… Giardia came from my first Triassic Triops envelope that I bought in the city I reside in, and Triops #2 and Triops #3 came from the Triassic Triops envelope in a different city.

My 2 biggest Triops

These include my first (survivor) triop (now 44 days old – almost 2 months) which will be the biggest one you see and also another survivor from my first hatchlings of the black beauty triops (longicaudatus) where I cooked the rest by keeping them too close to sunlight. The other is 2 weeks old. The elder (bigger) one died at midnight from when this video was posted :( RIP.
