Keeping Triops next to a window does not provide them with sufficient light. This is because Triops require incandescent light, and it has to be bright. If they do not have incandescent bright light, they will not hatch, or they will die if they have already hatched.

Well, ours did hatch and thrive on the window sill in my kitchen. It gets very good bright light in there. I did not use a lamp just the light God gave us. If you have a place where the sun shines bright in your windows for more than 6 hours a day, then you should be good. If not, you can buy a “baby chick” light from your local feed store. I paid $3 for ours. (used for Anoles)

The triops species sold in kits are T.Longicaudatus. They are quite sensitive to the temperature as their temperate range is around 22-26 celcius for most hatchlings to survive. They don’t need a lamp as long as the temperature is at a stable 24 degrees celcius. They can survive at lower temperatures though but you may not get as many hatchlings as if u were to keep that temperature.
Really depends on where u live…

I’d say that it might not be enough light for them. And if you can’t keep the water temperature between 21 and 30 C, then you might want to get a little desk lamp. If you like to keep things as natural as possible (or you don’t like the idea of a light staying on 24/7), then you can turn off the lamp so they can have a night.
