  1. read the instruction booklet that it comes with? Be aware that triops don’t live a long time- 2 weeks average

  2. I recently bought a Triops kit myself. I read all of the instructions before starting which is very important. #1 thing is you CAN’T use tap water to fill the bowl. You need to use bottled or distilled water as the instructions say. The chlorine and flouride and other metals in our drinking water will not allow the Triops to survive. The really amazing thing, once you set them up and get the eggs in there, they hatch in a few hours! You will see little dots, like periods, flitting and floating around. After a few days they will get bigger. My kit said to feed one pellet of food for each Triop you count after the second day. That I thought was just WAY TOO MUCH food. What I did was take one or two pellets daily and crush them between two spoons like you would do a pill. I dumped the crushed mixture in instead of whole pellets because those were just getting soggy and rotty. Several of mine started to get big, but remember, they are carnivorous. After a week I only had 1 very large Triop and a few small ones that hatched late because biggie ate the babies. Finally after a week or two they were all dead, the natural lifecycle. But what you can do is let the tank dry out COMPLETELY, don’t add more water, let it dry out. The original eggs left behind and the newly mated Triops eggs will hatch once you add water after if has been dry for a few weeks or so. Good luck!

  3. 1)Use only distilled water. Other waters have a high mineral content.
2)get a 2L container which has been washed in plain water. DO NOT USE SOAP!
3)Shake up the bottle of distilled water really good to get oxygen into the water.
4)empty the packet of triops eggs in the container.
    5)pour the water in.
6)punch in a few small holes with a tooth pick and place it in the water.
7)Keep the water at a steady temperature of 24-26 degrees celcius with a 60 watt light bulb and lamp. have a strip thermometre stuck on the outside of the container.
8)Do not feed the triops for 3 days after they hatch. They should hatch within 1-3 days. They feed on microscopic organisms in the nutrients packet for 3 days. They can take up to 2 weeks to hatch.Check for hatched triops every day.
9)after 3 days buy some sinking or slow sinking Betta food.
If there are more than 5 triops then get 1 pellet and dissolve it into the water. It will make a cloud in the water. If you want you can dissolve the pellet in a plastic cup with more distilled water and add that to your triops container. Repeat every 2 days for a week.
10)after a week feed them slightly crushed pellets. about 1 pellet every 2 triops. Don’t crush it up too small.
    11) When the triops are 1/4-1/2 inches long you should start to feed them whole pellets. feed them one each until it is all eaten. Count how many pellets they consume in a day and put in that amount of pellets a day.The food can stay in the water for 3 days until it starts to pollute the water.
12)Have sand in the container or tank if you transferred them to a larger tank so the triops will lay eggs. Have some free floating plant in the water to create oxygen and to use up all the dangerous chemicals that are in the tank which are harmful to triops but good for plants.
13)When all the triops are dead take them out and dry out the sand.
Let it sit completely dry for 1 month and just fill up the container with water and skip to step 7 to start the circle of life again.

I didn’t copy or paste anything!

  4. The easiest way to figure this out is when you go and buy the triops from the pet store, just ask them how to take care of them. If you want some more information just go to youtube, and watch a video of how to take care of them. I’ve seen plenty of videos on how to take care of them, and I’m sure it will help you.
