I need help with Triops!?

Firstly why can’t you touch triops? How many should hatch if you empty the whole thing? Will you need to buy replacement food? What makes them live longer? How do you get them to breed? Do they need constant heat from a lamp? Any thing else i need to know?

  1. You can touch, triops…..

Hatches around 30-40 or so, last time I hatched tham. But some will die, cause they do cannabalize. The food given, is alot if you feed right. 2 pellets between 2 spoons, and squish.

    Bottled water, food.

    They breed on their own.

    A lamp is fine.

  3. Hi
Yes you can touch them. But remember they have soft shells and can be damaged easily. I don’t advise they be taken out of the water for a long time because this may harm their delicate gills. With the billabong bugs kit you get about 6 hatch. Any more than that will probably starve or fight as there is just not enough room in the small tanks that they are set up in. You can buy replacement food if you intend to get into them in a big way or just rely on what is provided. There is usually enough food for one or two life cycles. Other good foods a re peas and carrots. You can also purchase some sinking fish food. They are usually hermaphrodites so they don’t need to mate like fish do. They lay eggs in fine sand so a trip to the beach will provide good sand for them but make sure that it has been washed clean of any salt and debris that may pollute their small tank. It is recommended especially if your ambient room temperature fall below 21 C. Its a lot cheaper to use a lamp for a few months than to purchase an expensive aquarium heater. You should always use pure drinking water or de-ionised water. that is free from chlorine and ozone products. The billabong Bugs kit also provides a special water conditioner that renders any of these chemicals harmless.
