Nice pet presents for a 12 year old?

I have a grow-a-frog, and have had triops, and my 11 year old brother is turning 12 this year. I would like to get him some sort of pet to keep him off his games for maybe 5 minutes each day.. LOL (he is obsessed with games.) Anyway, what kind of pet would you reccomend that would give him something to do? Thanks :)
Yes, i will watch it too.

  1. Bare Nekkid TRUTH!

is he actually responsible enough to care for a pet?

Ok.. well why not take him to the petshop on his birthday then and help him choose a pet? He will like it better if its something he chose himself.

  2. If you’re 100 percent sure he’ll take care of it an not forget about it, a gerbil is always nice. If you want something to watch and not have to handle, there’s frogs, different types of lizards, fish.

  5. i am a totale expert on pets, at the age of 12 i had over… 30 pets, and 5 fish tanks, and my recomendation for you would be, a bird. birds are nice becaues they can connect with their owner, form a bond with them, they also have veary long life spans, just make sure he would take it out, hold it, and teach it, but however, it can takes years to fully develop a bond with a bird, i have had my blue fronted amazon (she is now 4, lives veary long, over 100 yrs, kinda large,$2,000but you can just buy him a parakeet for starters) just started to fourm a bond with our family after 3 years,we let her fly around the house freely (dont try this with a small bird) as long as were in that room becaues she gets lonely, also, birds are effective buy a simple change as a movement of their cage to a diff. part of a room, my bird was moved and soon after beraly would eat and did not talk to us anymore, when we moved her back she was fine, with a parakeet, if you do not four a bond with him soon, (i know this as well i also own a parakeet) will become depresed and die, my parakeet lost his “friend” and almost died on me until i got him a mirror, you need various things like this in order for the birds survivle, you also need many perches. i hope yoy make the right decison on what to get him, also, fishtanks are expensive but nice, depends on the amount of gallons, also have him spend 1hr-2hrs with the bird so he will fourm a bond with it, do NOT get him a hamster, they have short life spans and although in-expensive and fun to watch, very depresing to see one die, also do not get him an expensive bird, i would not go above $80 on the bird, let him get a nicer bird after he shows he can handle the parakeet, caues it is much easyer to “ruin” an expensive bird.

  6. Pets do not make god gifts.
Don’t buy him a pet.. Buy him some books about certain types of pets instead so that he can learn the proper care.
