They will do ok with no sand . Tiny pieces of algae wafers are the best food. Have you ever had these before ? They do a backstroke swim to eat it’s kinda fun to watch . Make sure yo keep their water clean. They only live about a month so don’t worry when the start dying. They grow to about 3/4 of a inch. Adding a air stone to the tank will help them live a little longer.
First, you would have to make sure that their food is small enough to fit into their tiny mouths. Second, Triops normally dig through the dirt at the bottom of the puddle, or where ever they are, to get their food. I’ve watched my triop eat thousands of times, and she seems to have eaten all the bits of food that have floated up. But looking at how they dog for food, I prefer giving her food that sinks. But that’s just me.
They would definitely mate, regardless, but I’d imagine they’d lay eggs (the neat thing about their eggs is that they don’t need to be fertilized). But it would be more advisable to go out and get them some sand, but you can hatch one and see if there are any eggs when it dies (assuming of course it’s a female).
