    well its best to start with distilled then add in bottle but u shud be fine. Although i get even better results just using old tank water with no detritus at all.

    yh you will need detirtus for just normal water. Sum packs mix the detritus and eggs together. Other have the eggs in a little plastic container and the detritus is in the form of a tea bag.
