  1. When wetted, some of the Triops hatch right away. The ones that didn’t will wait until another drying/wetting cycle before they hatch. You don’t dry the tank until the current generation of Triops have passed on. Then the unhatched eggs and any that your current Triops laid will be dried out for the next time. A Triops will lay about 40 eggs, roll them into a ball and then glue sand grains on the outside of the ball to camouflage the eggs.

Since your pipette was damaged, you can use a length of aquarium airline tubing to siphon out debris. About four or five feet of it is enough. Siphon into a small bucket on the floor or at least a bit lower than the tank.

It is more complicated than just saying yes or no to whether you need a male and female. You could think of Triops as having four sexes, male, female, hermaphroditic, and unisexual. Some Triops species/populations are hermaphroditic, having both sexes complete in every individual. Others have separate males and females. The hermaphroditic species usually need two for reproduction, but if one is isolated, it can fertilize its own eggs. Unisexual species simply produce clones of themselves and dispense with sex altogether. With separate sexes you need at least one male and one female.

1-the drying out deal is when all your triops are dead you can dry out the tank they were living in because triop eggs as you should know can live without water for a long time, so when you dry out their water then introduce new water they should hatch, but this is when no other triop is alive besides the eggs.the eggs wont get ruined they just wont hatch if they been their for awhile.

2-if you got a siphon with a hole in it, which means its defecated, you can call and get a new one or buy a thin tubing to suck the water out with the forces of gravity.

3-triops are blessed by nature which is the reason why they lived for 300million + years, they are hermaphrodites which means they can fertilize their own eggs, so really you only need 1 triop and soon you will have a whole handful(thats if it survives)
