Triops in Freshwater Community Tank
My 35 day old triops (‘Blinky’) was unable to hold its own in my 10 gallon freshwater community aquarium. I found its naked exoskeleton a few hours after this was filmed. The culprit was probably my Clown Loach (not shown). This video is a few years old and the tank is no longer running — keep that in mind if you’re going to comment!

Hey genius, theres a reason why Triops aren’t supposed to be mixed with fish. I guess Triops aren’t the only animals with no brain huh? lol…

was that an oscar at 0:28? Or was it a different Cichlid or a Gourami?

Triops shouldn’t go with Oscars.
Oscars are amazonian hunting carnivores. Triops are weak little shrimps.

cool stuff,
I just ordered some, I think I’m going to eventually try and mix them with fish. I’ve got a more peaceful tank though.
and honestly… for all you know, he was going to die in a week or two anyhow… they only live what, like 2 months tops?

Actually, they can live for 3 months in captivity (depending on your environment/ species of the triops). Interestingly, nature provides for the triops’ lack of defense by placing them in vernal pools with no natural predators.

a triops is an ancient shrimp that still live today.they are fresh water and can grow 2 inches every month. they usually die at about 1-2 months old. they do this because the only reason they survived so long is do to this. also there eggs can survive 20 years(i think) on dry land. very awsome but canabalistic, unfortanatly.

If your talking about the brown bits that float at the top (detritus) I read that you can remove it after 3 days. I took it out on the 4th day and its still fine
